It’s time for another tactical eyewear review, and today I will be sharing my review of the BLACKHAWK! Special Ops Tactical Goggles.
Protective eyewear is a critical battlefield necessity, and these goggles are among the best on the market. They warrant serious consideration from members of our armed forces, SWAT and other high-pressure operators who rely on excellent vision to survive.
Constructed with soft urethane that is known for being resilient and flexible, and paired with shatterproof polycarbonate outer lenses, this truly is a tactical eyewear product which is built to last, if properly cared for.
This may come as a surprise to some, given that the goggles are made by BLACKHAWK! Though the tactical gear company has been operating since 1990, they have never had much of a presence in the tactical eyewear space. In fact, as of the time of this writing they only have this is the ONLY tactical eyewear product they offer. Nonetheless, BLACKHAWK! clearly made these goggles with the same commitment to quality as their other tactical products.
Although not experienced during our testing, we did see two reviews on Amazon which claim these goggles have a tendency to fog up. It is important to note that these goggles have a Dual-pane lens and anti-fog-impregnated acetate inner lens. Both of these components help to prevent moisture buildup on the lens.
However, when moving between environments (ex. cold to hot) it is still possible that moisture could build up, as noted in the reviews. Like with most goggles the easiest way to prevent fogging is to clean the lenses regularly. We recommend using a pure white bar soap or a small touch of shaving cream. If you are engaged in a situation that prevents you from performing a full cleaning, using your own saliva is a viable alternative.
in my opinion, these goggles are priced reasonably. I justify the near $75 price in a few ways. First, as mentioned earlier, if you care for these tactical goggles and perform routine cleaning and maintenance, it is certainly possible that they could last the entirety of your career. Now consider what you might pay for a pair of reading glasses or contact lenses that will last you nowhere near as long.
There are undoubtedly lower priced options and if you are willing to sacrifice on longevity and overall quality, then you can find tactical goggles on Amazon in the $20-$30 range. On the flip side, these goggles are ideal for someone who prefers spending a little bit more for a reputable brand and eyewear that will not need to be regularly replaced.
With the above considerations in mind, I would certainly give these BLACKHAWK Special Operations Goggles good marks, and if you are on the hunt for a new pair of tactical goggles you really can’t go wrong by getting yourself a pair.
